Novovoronezh NPP-2 is a nuclear power plant of a new generation. Its construction was commenced in 2007 in accordance with AES-2006 design developed by JSC Atomenergoproekt based on VVER-1200 reactor.

AES-2006 design meets all Russian and international safety requirements.

I&C basic design for Novovoronezh NPP-2 was developed by VNIIAES in cooperation with other enterprises and scientific institutes of the nuclear industry. High quality of the work performed can be demonstrated by the fact that during the independent audit conducted by IAEA (IERICS-2012 mission) no significant comments or objections were issued.

Computer-aided design tools for normal operation systems, safety systems (PORTAL design module) and electrical instrumentation & control systems were improved significantly during this project. Furthermore, safety I&C and neutron flux monitoring equipment (NFME) based on microprocessors were developed and implemented.

Diverse protection system ensuring hardware, software and algorithm diversity was implemented for the first time at Units 1 & 2 of Novovoronezh NPP-2. The system also serves as an additional hardwired protection system. Thus the diverse protection system fully complies with the requirements of Rostechnadzor and international regulatory bodies.

By now, I&C has been installed, all subsystems have been debugged and tested, and the I&C is 100% ready for commercial power operation.

The specialists of JSC RASU provide technical support for operational personnel of the power unit at the first criticality stage.
